Nella poesia è presente una similitudine. I soldati in guerra sono come le foglie sugli alberi  in autunno, cioè possono cadere e morire in qualsiasi momento.

Giuseppe Ungaretti è nato nel 8 febbraio 1888 ed è morto nel 1 giugno 1970. È stato un poeta, scrittore è traduttore italiano. I suoi genitori Antonio Ungaretti (1844-1890), Maia Lunardini (1050-1926). Una delle sue poesie è Soldati, scritta in un buncher ai tempi dellal guerra.
